Bridesmaids!

Today I'm listening to: The Wombats
Mood: Good

When I realised that yes, I am actually going to be getting married, one of the first things I wanted to do was ask my nearest and dearest to be part of the wedding party. I'd been waiting for years to get engaged and when I finally got there, there was no chance I was waiting any longer to ask! I have four lovely girls as my wedding troupe, something my mum thinks is madness!

The criteria that I thought about when choosing my bridesmaids was very simple, they had to know me well enough and love me enough to be able to handle the inevitable crazy period that I will no doubt go through, and they also have to be as excited as me and Ross for our big day! After that, picking the girls was so easy, so here's an introduction!

Maid of Honour

Name: Louise
Relation: Sister

I picked Louise as my maid of honour for a few reasons, it's not just that she's my sister and that I was her maid of honour as well, quite simply, I picked Louise because she is my best bud. Sisters fight and we are no different, we argue all the time, but five minutes later and we're having a laugh over something else. She also keeps me right as far as fashion is concerned. When I was born, I was unfortunate enough to be born without a fashion gland (you know, that thing inside women's brains which tell them what to wear and what not to wear) and a complete toyboy. I never wear make up and I own 1 nice dress that was subject to 3 days scrutiny from Louise and 90% of the staff in the shop, who had gathered round to see how I looked in it. In short, there is no one else I would trust to help me pick my wedding dress.

Second in Command

Name: Suzanne
Relation: Future Sister in Law/Best Friend

I met Suzy years ago, she was going out with a mutual friend and we sometimes saw each other, we always got on and stuff, just never really seen each other enough to become close friends or anything. A few months later Suzy started seeing Jamie, who is Ross's younger brother. For a few years we still hardly saw each other despite all staying in the same flat and it was sometimes quite awkward encountering anyone in the hall/kitchen, as we didn't know each other that well. Fast forward a couple of years and we're all very close now since they had our nephew James, and Suzanne is actually one of my closest friends and I love her like a sister. So when it came to picking bridesmaids I didn't even need to think about it, she'll be standing next to me the day I get married!

Third in Command

Name: Cat
Relation: Oldest friend

I've known this girl since I was 5, she moved into my street just before we started school. When we were kids, we didn't always see eye to eye because we were both such strong personalities, and had such wide differences in opinion over so many things, plus you know what kids are like, cruel little humans. When we got to high school, we (well, I) grew up a bit and we started to get on really well, it's nearly ten years later and we are best of pals, we're both on the same page and I'm very proud of everything that she's achieved so far - I say so far, she's destined for big things, I think she may actually discover the cure for cancer one day! So happy that this girl agreed to be my bridesmaid because I literally love the bones of her.

Fourth in Command

Name: Louise
Relation: Best Bud!

I first met Louise at the school disco in 2nd year, we danced to Brown Eyed Girl and we bonded over a mutual love for all things musical (we were and still are really cool). Pretty much from that night on we were attached at the hip, sitting next to each other in all classes (I might dig some of the notes we used to pass each other out and post them here!)  and we would be at gigs all the time, hanging about the back of venues trying to catch a glimpse of the bands,  meeting them all and basically stalking them through Glasgow. There was a while where we didn't talk to each other and I really missed her face and when we patched things up and it felt as though we were still teenagers and nothing had changed, chatting away and being odd together. We might not see each other as much as we should, but she's still my best pal even after all these years and I'm so chuffed she's going to be my bridesmaid!

So there you have it, there's the bridesmaids who I love and can't wait to see what they come up with for my hen night! They all know they are special to me and now you know too!

See you all soon!

8th February!

Since this is a wedding blog and your wedding is all about looking and feeling awesome, I decided to review a product which I tried for the first time last night and was so overcome with emotion when I realised how good it is. I'm not usually one for using moisturising creams, I don't like the feeling of the lotion on my skin, frankly, it makes me sick, but after hearing good things about this stuff I had to try it.

I am of course talking about Garnier Intensive Body Lotion, I went for the Ultra Softening Lotion with shea butter for dry to extra dry skin because I love the smell and my skin is extremely sad after 24 years of having no moisturising routine. So, to give the lotion a fair chance I used Pulp Friction and got scrubbing, and after that I used the lotion.

I must stress how much I really don't like the feeling of creams and lotions on my skin, but this was different, the greasy feeling on my hands lasted only a couple of minutes and before I knew it the lotion was completely absorbed into my skin and I could go to bed feeling (and smelling) amazing. My arms and legs are still feeling the benefits from this stuff and I highly recommend it to brides who want to smell and feel amazing on their big day.

I might just make this part of my routine now!

Louise & William 4th November 2011

Since this is a blog about weddings, I decided to start with the wedding I know most about. My own sister's!

My sister Louise and her husband William have been together for years, and they decided to get married while she was washing the dishes one day. Very romantic! But there is no doubting how much they love each other and their special day proved it!

Here is a token photo of me and Louise at the Hen Night! Was a great night!

The Venue

The venue for the day was The Vu in Bathgate which is a converted barn with a separate building called the Water Lily built onto a reservoir. Stunning venue with a great location, it's out the way and extremely high class. The Vu were very accommodating and showed us around everywhere they possibly could, which just added to the impressiveness of the whole package.

All credit for these wedding photos goes to Ross Wilson Photography!

The Dress

The dress is the most important part of the day for some brides and it's important to find the right one for you. In this case, Louise knew as soon as she saw this dress on the hanger. Here is a nice picture of her dress!

And the make up...

The Ceremony

The ceremony was fantastic, it was conducted by a minister who was mental, making everyone laugh, it helped to relax everyone and made the ceremony enjoyable. I am not ashamed to admit I cried a wee bit! All the guests have since said that it was a lovely ceremony and the video is brilliant!

That's it from me just now, I will update the post with any more I can think of later on!!! But for now, we will wish the new Mr and Mrs Ferguson all the best and hope they have a happy life!!!

What's On My Mind Today

Hey everyone!
Not much progress to blog about! Although I do have a reason to blog today, I have been thinking about what I want this blog to be, and made the decision that as well as blogging my journey from Miss G to Mrs B I will be blogging the prettiest, and the most insanely amazing things I see people do on their wedding day as well as some local companies which I think could help you have the wedding day you deserve!

That's it for today and I'll back later in the week!

Getting Started

Hi everyone!

I have been a busy wee bee over the last three weeks! I've been going to see venues, researching, picking colours and eyeballing certain BEAUTIFUL dresses!

The first venue I went to see was 29 in Glasgow City Centre. 29 is a wonderful venue, and has so many unique features which are rustic, yet modern with a major touch of class. I met with the inhouse wedding planner there, David, who showed us around and answered all my crazy questions. The first area we were shown was the Supper Club, a gorgeous big room that looks incredibly classy and with its brick walls and pillars, it's perfect for a ceremony AND a meal. We decided against 29 purely because we wanted to stay at the venue we got married in overnight, and it doesn't have that facility, but maybe for my next wedding...

The second venue I visited was THE ONE. Burnhouse Manor in Ayrshire is lovely, it's got this really delicious smell of home made soup as soon as you walk in, this is a good thing for me! There are two lovely areas for a ceremony indoor and outdoors, the function suite is big enough for a large wedding and also has curtains in order that it may be intimate enough for a small wedding which mine will be! Plus, there is a jacuzzi bath with a TV attached....

So we booked it!!!

The Engagement

It's almost five years later, we are in our flat, living inside a happy bubble of watching too much TV, and eating constant chinese takeaways. It's my sister's wedding soon and instead of losing weight to get into my bridesmaid dress, I've attacked every chinese takeaway in EK and ate all their food. And Dominos... can't get enough of Dominos. I've subsequently piled on the weight and I'm feeling quite terrible about myself.

As I proudly watch my sister walk down the aisle, I see everyone looking at my sister, and she really is a beautiful bride, her dress is wonderful, her hair is pulled up in a messy bun and she has a tiara on which is lovely. I wish it was me.

That evening, Ross is acting funny at the reception, he won't dance with me, and although he doesn't smoke he spends most of the night outside smoking with my dad. Weirdo. It later transpires that he was chatting to my dad about the fact that he was coming round to the idea of getting married to me.

On 20th December 2011, Ross got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and, as the happiest woman in the world, I said yes.

About half an hour later I was googling venues.
